Phil Nguyen

Mr. Phil Nguyen is a bilingual 6th Degree Black Belt International Instructor who has been training and competing in the martial art of Taekwon-Do since 1984 and has been teaching Taekwon-Do in Kanata since 1988.


He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and Management from the University of Ottawa. His motto is to "Be Your Best, Make a Difference, and Live Life to the Fullest!"

  His martial arts accomplishments include:

  • Co-Owner and Head Instructor of Black Belt Excellence Martial Arts Academy
  • Head Instructor of Lu's Taekwon-Do Kanata from 1988-2005
  • Winner, the People's Choice in Kanata for "Citizen of the Year", Kanata Chamber of Commerce, 2007
  • Winner, People's Choice in Kanata for Family Business of the Year, Kanata Chamber of Commerce, 2006
  • Author of the Black Belt Excellence Workbook Series
  • Has taught 1,000's of Taekwon-Do students and produced multiple Black Belts, Champions, and Leaders in Society
  • Recipient of the Founder's Award presented by General Choi Hong Hi, Founder of Taekwon-Do, for his dedication, promotion, and teaching of the martial art in Kanata
  • Co-Creator of the award-winning Bully Busters program and workshop

Amelia Nguyen

Mrs. Amelia Nguyen is a 4th Degree Black Belt who has been training and competing in the martial art of Taekwon-Do since 1994 and has been teaching Taekwon-Do in Kanata since 2000.



She holds a Graduate Degree in Conflict Resolution and a Bachelors Degree in Law from Carleton University in Ottawa.

Her martial arts accomplishments include:
