The leadership and teaching aspect of the
martial arts is what has made the difference
between me training in Taekwon-Do for 4-5
years versus enjoying Taekwon-Do as a Way of Life. -
Mr. Phil Nguyen, Head Instructor
Program
Description
The
leadership
opportunities you have offered the
boys and I have added a whole new dimension to
our Taekwon-Do training. I personally find it
exhilarating to be able to assist in the earlier
class and I believe it is an invaluable learning
experience for Pat and Sam. It has certainly
reinforced to me your adage that "teaching is
learning twice". - Bob J.

I learned
enormously from the Leadership Team Training Session. The
class was very well structured and the pace was good. We had
enough time for each exercises and the examples, scenarios, and
discussions around them helped me understand the concepts.
I also want
to mention that the technique that you use to help us learn
and remember is incredible. The out loud repetitions and the
movements associated with the word help me enormously. You also
use this technique in class and it is a technique which I
appreciate. - Genevieve C.
"Teaching is
learning twice." - Joseph Joubert
Blair has
been lucky enough to become a Little Dragons S.T.O.R.M. team
member and loves working with the younger kids. It amazes me
that at such a young age she has already decided on a career
and has started working towards it and being part of the
team will help her work on her leadership skills. I
believe that Taekwon-Do is great for exercise, but as a
parent of teenagers, I think that it really guides kids in a
different direction and creates very strong, confident, and
respectful individuals. - T. Woolley

Taekwon-Do and Leadership
Excellence has
been an excellent program program for my daughter in many
different ways. Physically, she is a solid young lady
and in good shape. Mentally she is much more
confident and it shows in her day to day behaviour but
very noticeably just recently in the way she was coaching her
brother and I on some of the basic new skills we are learning.
It was a side of her I rarely see and I thought I would take a
moment and share it with you.
We decided,
at my daughter's suggestion, that we should use part of the
basement as a pseudo dojang - an area we can practice some of
the skills/patterns we will be learning. As we entered, she
transitioned from my daughter, to instructor and it became
instantly clear the benefits she has gained from her volunteer
work at Black Belt Excellence. Her patience
with her brother increased instantly, her ability to
balance the correction of faults vs positive reinforcement was
very good. Her insistence on following proper protocol (Yes Ma'am)
and her brother's - and my - willingness to follow her lead.
It was as if a different young lady had emerged. She
owned the moment. In a very short period of
time, her presence changed from daughter and sister, to
instructor. She commanded the room naturally. It came easily to
her and was not forced. I was also impressed by the
depth of knowledge she had, but more importantly her ability to
clearly communicate the subtleties and nuances of the
walking stance, and the motions between transitions of each move
while correcting me. Clearly at her belt level this should be
all second nature but it is one thing to have the
ability to do something, and it is another to know it well
enough and have the skills to teach it.
Despite the fact we were in an informal
environment and she was just helping "her Dad" and "her bother",
I was impressed with the way that she handled herself.
Clearly your influence through
both the normal Taekwon-Do training and the leadership
skills you have been exposing her to have had very positive
benefits. I have always believed this but what stood
out for me that evening was a part of the benefits I had never
witnessed. In my mind, I saw a snapshot of the young woman she
is transitioning into. I was very proud at what I saw.
Now, I hope that my wife and I, and my daughter herself can take
some of the credit for who she is today :-), but clearly
your influence has been a very positive factor and I thought you
should know.
Too often folks only
take the time to pass along negative feedback, and miss the
opportunity for positive feedback. I wanted to share with
you positive feedback of the job I think you are both doing
and the impact it is having on our family.
